Click on the download link. Choose the save option. The file is around 2.5mb. Remember what directory you save the file in! After download, navigate to the file (Koinonia.msi), and double-click on it. When installing, the default installation directory is C:\Program Files\Koinonia. Do not install into a different directory. The install directory will be called the Koinonia directory hereafter.

********** Important***********

If you have used Koinonia before to produce your monthly report or to post BBFI receipts, and are familiar with using the program, you may skip all the rest of these instructions. Otherwise, please continue:

Following installation, navigate to the Koinonia directory.

If you use MS Access 97: Rename Sample Missionary Database.mdb to BBFI.mdb (Note: if the file name you see is Sample Missionary Database (without .mdb), then rename the file BBFI, leaving off .mdb).

Otherwise: Double-click on Sample Missionary Database.mdb (.mdb may not show on your system). When given the option to convert the database, select that option and save it to C:\Program Files\Koinonia with a file name of BBFI.mdb

Now launch Koinonia by double-clicking on the Koinonia.exe file DO NOT RUN THE SETUP PORTION OF KOINONIA YET

Running the sample monthly report:

To run the sample monthly report, click on "1. Create BBFI Monthly Report (ToMO)", key in the password (which is 316 until you change it later) in the password field, and follow the prompts, filling in your personal information as requested, such as name, salary, seniority allowance, etc. Use 2004 as the year, and October as the month. On the final screen, click on Update, then exit. The sample report will now be visible as an Excel spreadsheet.

Now test the Post BBFI Giving section:

Using your email program, open your latest end-of-month report received from the missions office. Select the whole report and copy it to the clipboard as follows:

Click on Edit/Select All, then click on Edit/Copy.

Now launch Koinonia, and select "2. Post BBFI receipts (FromMO)" function, key the password (316) in the password field, and follow the prompts. When finished, click on Return, then exit.

You should see an Excel database open with results of processing your monthly report. This will aid you in updating your Quicken file with figures from the M.O. report.

To see the database results, navigate to the Koinonia directory, and double click on BBFI.mdb. You should now see a church name and address record along with the amount they gave this month (the amount is toward the right-middle of the screen). Click on the arrow right icon (located on the bottom left of the screen) to see the next record and the next and so on

Exit out of that window by clicking on the lower X on the top right corner. Click on the Reports tab, and double click on Monthly Support Listing. When prompted for the Month, key in the month you just processed (8 for August, 7 for July, etc.). This report is a summary of your church giving for the month. Check the total on the last page--it should balance with your actual monthly report.

You now have all the data you would need to prepare a mail-merged prayer letter complete with receipt on the bottom automatically generated.

In the Koinonia directory is a sample mail-merged document called Sample mail merge prayer letter.doc. Open this document. Now complete the merge, choosing to merge to a new document as follows: Toward the top of the screen, you should see a row of Icons used for mail merge. Hover the cursor over each on until you find one that indicates merge to a new document. When you find it, click on that Icon. This will create one letter for each of the records in your database. You should see one letter per church along with a receipt on the bottom of each one. Peruse these letters, and then close them (don't save the changes).

Now, close and save Sample mail merge prayer letter.doc. This will become the template (by saving it under a different name) for your real prayer letter when you are ready to prepare it.

Now launch Koinonia, select the Setup function, key the password in the password field, then click Continue.

Now select function 1, and click on Go. Put your name and field into the SU0_1 field, then click on Update, then Return. Then Exit out of Koinonia.
